Hockey Canada has developed minor hockey certification clinics in order to train and develop volunteers to be effective coaches, trainers and hockey parents. The participants will be better equipped to develop players to the highest level they are capable of achieving in a fun, safe and team-oriented atmosphere. The clinics are facilitated by Hockey Canada certified trainers who have a background related to the clinic in order to enhance the presentation. The Greater
London Hockey Association will be offering these certification clinics again for the 2009 season.
The GLHA has become a training centre of choice to host the clinics in the Minor Hockey Alliance Ontario due to our facilities and administration. We offer the following Hockey Canada clinics:
Speak Out (Prevention Services) – An interactive workshop focused on the prevention of harassment and abuse in the game of hockey. Mandatory for anyone having contact with player other than their own son/daughter.
Coach Development – Interactive sessions requiring coaches to become an active learner that will allow them to have a more meaningful and positive impact on the players they coach. Accreditation is applicable for Novice House League through Midget AA.
Trainer – This is not a first aid course, rather an introductory program emphasizing risk management and safety education as well as other components non-medical in nature, which are vital to all participants to ensure the safety of all players. All rostered teams must have a certified Trainer to sign each game sheet and attend practices.
The GLHA has hosted these clinics for a many years. In the past 6 years alone, 3,284 participants have received their Hockey Canada minor hockey certification through the clinics we have hosted.
The success of the clinics can be measured by the number of players who have been developed to play at some elite levels, the number of coaches who have been promoted to elite levels, the number of players who have excelled at all levels of caliber in London, the number of players who have attended the clinics after their playing days are over and the fact that player registration numbers in the City of London have stabilized over the last few years.
